Assignment

How might you use the letters in a humaunities class? What has your experience with primary sources been? Can students be historians?

Well, first of all I have no idea what a humanuntities class is I never had to take one and I don't what it has to do with historical documents. I liked it the listening to the the primary source. Unfortunitly my speakers on my computer are not good at all so i couldn't really hear them that well. So I had to read from at least a page and half into it. Reading it was difficult because of the the scroll bar so it took me a while to read. I don't think students can be considered legitimate historians but they can have valuable insight like historians.

When students learn from reading things like the Hunt and Bragg letters they are doing the same thing a historian would at first exposure to the material. Students are taught to and asked to analyze, synthesize, compare and contrast, and make inferences all the time; these are the same higher level thinking skills that historians apply when they’re on the job. I think students are fully capable of stepping into the role of historian and completely fulfilling the job requirements.

i agree with lindsey as she tells you that Students CAN be historians. Maybe not real life historians, but like Lindsey mentioned, they can do just the same work as a historian and act that way when exploring history, making just as legit as a real historian.
