How have social networking (FaceBook) and/or cell phones changed your life?

Social networking has not really changed my life at all since I only made one like a month ago. The cell phone has completely changed my life. I use it 24/7 to keep in touch with everyone. I don't think I would go out as much without because if my friends were out somewhere without a cell phone I wouldn't be able to get in touch with them. My car has broken down a bunch of times and without a cell phone I would have been stuck in the middle of the highway surround by cars unable to call a tow truck. Cell phones have come in so handy in my life I don't know what i did without it.

Think about the last time you created something original (a song, video, literature, idea, etc.) Talk about the process and what you learned from it.

The last video I made was my sophmore year of high school for biology class. The assignment was to make a commercial for a new gene that we would sell. The imaginary gene my group did was a gene that gave a person ninja skills. We had no script and I used a form of editing called in camera editing I just learned in tv class. I lied when I said we had no script because the 30 seconds that had to do with science we had scripted. We had the funniest video but the lowest grade on it which was still a 91 which was fine with me.

Assignment

Sign-up, try it out, write a review (include how you would use it in a classroom), and post it on your blog and add it to the websites on the website page of our wiki.

The Web 2.0 site I decided to use was last.fm. It is a website where people can upload as much music as they want and make radio stations out of their favorite songs. Not only can you do that you can talk and message with people that have the same music tastes as you. Music can be used to help describe someone else culture and what they were thinking at a specific time. When I have to teach for example the 1960's I would put a lot of the influence music of the era into a radio stations and make the students listen to it and have them write about it. Since I am really new to all this web 2.0 stuff it is all pretty hard for me to do so I am not a good judge of hard easy a website is to use.

How is the course going so far? What has been most valuable? What are your concerns or fears? What would you like to see more (or less) of?

I feel the course is going well right now. My knowledge of web 2.0 has deffiantly got a lot better. Before I came to college I never used any web 2.0 website ever before. For me the entire class has been valuable because this is the first time I am using the internet for this function. My biggest worry is that I am already so far behind in this class because most kids have had a myspace or a facebook for a really long time so I don't want to get lost. I like the way class has been going at the rate it's going I am going to be really good at using web 2.0.

Assignment

How might you use the letters in a humaunities class? What has your experience with primary sources been? Can students be historians?

Well, first of all I have no idea what a humanuntities class is I never had to take one and I don't what it has to do with historical documents. I liked it the listening to the the primary source. Unfortunitly my speakers on my computer are not good at all so i couldn't really hear them that well. So I had to read from at least a page and half into it. Reading it was difficult because of the the scroll bar so it took me a while to read. I don't think students can be considered legitimate historians but they can have valuable insight like historians.

How did you spend your time on the WWW last week? Was it productive? What does it mean to be productive?

Everytime I go on the internet its to check facebook. If it is not to do that it's to do work for this class. So I think i have been very productive because I have got intouch with a lot of my friends from high school and made some new friends too. Also I post my blogs which is work for this class. To be productive on the internet you have to do something you want and get it done.

The author expresses concern over the the unlimited media gratification that our youth have. He is essentially talking about you! Resond to his concern:

The first problem the author has is with the threat of impluse buying of teens with a lot of money. What he fails to realize is that threat of impluse buying would of been a problem in web 1.0. In the web 2.0 it is all about networking, and chatting, and blogging with friends. Another problem he brings up is that the internet will make school boring but schools around the country are starting to use all website teenagers are using. An example of this is this class. If anything is makeing school a lot easier and better after a lesson a student can go to the internet and get more information about that subject then a teacher could ever teach them. The author kind of reminds me of someone that doesn't understand how to use a computer because that is the direction he heads with his arguements. He is out of touch with the advatages of web 2.0.
